Thanks for your comments.   The one thing I don't like about the Pur design 
is the auto switch-off of the filter.   Somehow, I just don't trust 
mechanical springs that would disable the filter all of a sudden.  I would 
rather judge the replacement frequency by taste or length of use myself.  I 
mean..  if I am already using tap water for the occasional use, a "bad" 
filter isn't going to make the water worse.
The Teledyne product is cheaper and the replacement filters are less 
expensive.  That is why I was thinking of going with that instead of the Pur. 
  But I am hoping to hear more people's experiences with these type of 
products.
I don't have a smell problem with our water (well water), but the Brita sure 
makes an incredible visible difference in the quality of ice cubes.   A glass 
of filtered water with filtered-water ice cubes is a very refreshing taste 
experience.
