TS> EP> NRA CrimeStrike's
TS> EP> CrimeWatch Weekly
TS> EP> State courts were responsible for 164,584 violent crime
conviction
TS> EP> vs. 2,873 for federal courts. Those crimes included murder,
egligent
TS> EP> manslaughter, rape, robbery, kidnaping and other sexual assaults.
TS> EP> Violent crimes constituted 19% of state court felony
onvictions,
TS> EP> but were just 7% of federal court convictions.
TS> EP> Nationally, of 911,842 felony convictions of all types in 1994,
TS> EP> state courts accounted for about 96% (872,218) vs.
TS> EP> 4.3% (39,624) in federal
TS> EP> courts during 1994.
TS>IOW, over 80% of felonies did not involve violent crimes of any kind?
TS>It would be interesting to see the NRA distribute the raw
TS>data on this, rather than just the ad agency hype.
I'm confused, Terry. The above looks pretty close to being raw
statistics to me. To what "hype" are you referring? EP
TS>What percentage of felonies were over citizens exercising
TS>RTKBA, but in areas statutorily criminalized?
TS>What percentage were involved in the drug trade, made a black market by
TS>numerous malum prohibitum statutes?
TS>What percentage involved economic or property crimes, with
TS>what categories being most substantial?
TS>If felonies are supposed to include only crimes of serious
TS>harm to real victims, how can five times as many include no
TS>violence as were violent?
All interesting questions, Terry. I'm afraid I can't answer any
of them. Why not write to NRA's "RESEARCH" Division, and ask
them? The culling of raw statistical data just isn't my field;
though I know it's pretty involved. I'm not sure the answers
you're seeking are available from the same sourses. EP
TS>Is the 3 year delay supposed to reflect arrests in 1994, convictions in
that
TS>year without regard to appeal results, convictions in 94 or
TS>before which exhausted or did not pursue final available
TS>appeals as of 94, convictions in 94 with any appeal results
TS>since resulting, some level of paperwork processing delays
TS>on one of the above, or what?
TS>Terry
I'd *guess* it takes that long to get the data in from all the
sources, and compile it. Ernie P.
