Bob, I've read your other posts, and the replies. I haven't jumped in
with anything previously as it appeared that you were getting the proper
information. Obviously you've still got a problem. A rule of thumb...If
the top RPM of the engine is say 6000rpm, a proper prop match would have
the top RPM at approx 5800rpm or so, but not to exceed 6000 or you would
be inviting a powerhead failure. Best to be slightly less than the top
RPM rating. What is the top RPM w/o trimming out, having the engine at a
normal position (Cavitation plate on a parallel with the keel ?
Are there any "Thru Hull" fittings on the bottom of your boat that
may be somewhat in line with the engine ? If so, there's a very good
chance that they may be throwing a "Air Pocket" into the prop area at
high speed. This also holds true for any fittings that may be attached
to the transom if in the improper area.
Engines, if left "Sitting" for a month or so...(Even new engines as
many are test run at the factory) will, without question, result in
having restricted (Clogged) carburetor jets. Should this condition
exist, a engine running at say 3/4 throttle which should be turning at
approx (To Pick A Figure) 4500 rpm, might be turning only 3900 rpm. In
short...The engine will never obtain full power at any setting.
Don't know if your problem may be any of the above, but it's food for
thought.
Joe
