On 04-11-09, BOB ACKLEY said to TIM RICHARDSON: BA>Replying to a message of TIM RICHARDSON to CHINACAT: TR> You want hot? Try Gila Bend, Arizona in July. Or Dateland. Or Hyder. BA>Have you ever travelled the old US50 east out of Reno (to wherever it BA>goes, I suppose eventually it ends up in Denver but am not sure)? I've BA>read that particular stretch of several hundred miles is the loneliest BA>highway in the country. Yes I have. But from the Reno area only over to Ely, Nevada when I worked on the railroad. Its a long up-and-down-hill drive, seems to last for far longer than it really does. At some point old US 50 becomes highway 70, and that highway goes all the way to the Pittsburg area. Old highway 50 leaves Rte 70 at some point and meanders off by itself all the way to Pueblo at least. Haven't thought of that old road in years! A semi with a 45 footer would have a hell of a time on that route. A trucker probably wouldn't go on it unless they had a delivery for a spot that was only accessable by 50. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/250 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 222/2 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 SEEN-BY: 396/45 633/260 267 690/734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
