NYC EVENTS FOR APRIL 2006
-----------------------

[part 1 of 2]
The following astronomy activities in the commuting ring enclosing
New York City are operated by various organizations. A few cultural
items of special importance to City astronomers may be included.
Altho NYC Events confirms the listed items, they are subject to
change by their sponsors. Check with their contacts. For events which
missed NYC Events, check the NYSkies Yahoogroup forum. Join NYSkies by
sending a blank email to 'nysky-subscribe{at}yahoogroups.com'.
Let the sponsor of an event you attend know that you learned of its
event thru NYC Events. You may ask for the next NYC Events thru
'nyskiesastronomy{at}earthlink.net' if you didn't yet join the forum.
Hours on April 1st are Eastern Standard Time; from April 2nd thru
30th they are Eastern Daylight Savings Time.
Astronomy and Space Days
----------------------
Many astronomy centers are holding special sessions for Astronomy
Day or Space Day; some combine the two into one event. Altho this
issue of NYC Events lists some of these events, many were not yet
confirmed at issue time. Please inquire at your local astronoomy
center for late news.
NYSkies celebrates Earth Day, rather than Astronomy or Space Day.
It has a booth at America's annual Earth Day festival. Starting in
2003 Earth Day was held in or next to Grand Central Terminal. Before
then it was an outdoor carnival in a Manhattan park or street.
This year, due to the rising exhibitor and public fervor, there
are TWO Earth Day fairs! The first is on April 14-15 inside the depot.
This is where you'll meet NYSkies and its grandest exhibit of all the
fair. The other is on April 21-22 adjacent to the station as a street
party. While NYSkies is not in this second fair, do come and enjoy the
other exhibits.
