subject: Police Brutality

TR> RB> Critics of the justice system say that police brutality is
TR> RB> widespread, that police corruption is even more widespread.
TR> RB> With highly publicized brutality cases, riots in the inner
TR> RB> city, what do you cops think of all this? Do cops unfairly
TR> RB> discriminate against minorities and the poor?
TR>This question was directed to cops, and I was just wondering if you
TR>are a cop.
No, I'm not. If I were one I would have identified myself as one. And on
my post it was quite evident that I'm not. I even stated that I COULDN'T
be a cop because of my ethical standards.
Are you saying I have no right to offer my opinion?
TR> SK> I think it is widespread. Why? Because it happens ALOT!
TR> SK> Not that ALL cops do it...or even most.
TR>Ok, where would you get your information from?
Are you saying most cops DO do it?
TR> What is ALOT?
Too much.
TR> Would your opinions be flavored by the media frenzy
TR>when a single cop screws up?
Not at all. Because there is no such thing.
TR> Was it just a gut feeling, or how did
TR>you form your opinion? I am sincerely interested in how you formed
TR>your opinion.
No you're not.
TR> SK> Perhaps it's that "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts
TR> SK> absolutely". It also has to do with WHO would wish to be a cop.
TR> SK> I wouldn't...because I have ethics.
TR>So, you can't have ethics and be a police officer at the same time???
I didn't say that. I said _I_ couldn't be a cop because _I_ have
ethics...and since _I_ disagree with certain laws but would be held to
an oath to enforce those laws _I_ couldn't do that. I DID say that there
are cops that are just as ethical as me that CAN uphold their oath
because they believe in the laws. You just conveniently clipped that
part of my post out. Which was a less than ethical thing to do, IMO.
TR>I think that most officers would find your statement very
TR>interesting, but odd.
Good.
TR> SK> just as the commandeering thread proved, some people live in a
TR> SK> fascist state...in their mind.
TR>Certain laws that pertain to the preservation of life and property,
TR>public safety, and minimum standards that pertain to civic duty have
TR>nothing to do with fascism.
Authoritarianism and blind obedience do.
