But the whole point of Canon material is so that fans in other countries for
example, that may not have gotten a novel to be bothered. Someone here used
language as a metaphor for Canon.  There are different dialects (the novels,
books, shos, movies, fanfic) But the main language that everyone can
understand and speak (shows, movies).  TPTB have determined what is canon.
It is now there creation (DS9 and VOY anyway) so they can say what they want
about it.
