EH>-> Robert there is a very good reason for this. At least in the Air
EH>-> Force all training is and has been for quite awhile in Tri-Cycle
EH>-> Gear Jets.
EH>Jim, several years ago we had a similar problem locally that, had it
EH>not been so serious would have been really funny.
Elvis, enjoyed the flying story about the new pilot at your place. It
follows along with my experience. I tried one time to check out a
friend in a Piper Pacer and never did feel comfortable with him enough
to let him go by himself. We tried other instructors and it was the
same. He later flew with the Skyblazers (The USAFE Acrobatic Team,
painted and looked like the Thunderbirds) that was the team that
preformed all over Europe. He was a decorated Combat Pilot in VN so go
figure.
I guess my point here is that Conventional Gear/Prop flying is a
different ball game. I think I mentioned on here long ago that in
reverse I tried to check out some ole Gooney pilots in T-33 and several
just never could get their thinking and reaction time up to the required
level. So my point is that it goes both ways and depends on the
individual. I had no problem going down to the DC-3 as I had
conventional prior experience. When I first flew Helicopters I was told
that as a Jet Pilot I wouldn't be able to hold it in a 10 acre field. I
was a little wobbly at first but the touch is the same as Jets.
Pressures and soft touch seemed to be the order of the day.
It all reminds me of GOLF. It all seems to be a game of concentration
and how much of it you use.
