Heres the entries from the 'Standard Guide to American Cars'
-1965 Avanti II
"When Studebaker terminated car production in South Bendm Indiana, the end
of the Avanti seemed certain. There where no plans to build it in Canada,
where the regular passenger car prodiuction was consolidated. Long-time
South Bend Studebaker-Packard dealers Nathanial Altman and Leo Newman tried
to interest other auto makers to continue the Avanti. No one was interested,
so they bought part of the vacated Studebaker factory and all dies, parts
and rights to the Avanti and built it themselves. It was little changed
from the studebaker model. The fiberglass body was supplied by Moulded
Fiber-Glass of Ashtabula Ohio (which makes the Corvette body). They selected
the Corvette engine to power their car....A choice of 700 interior
upholsteries, colors and styles was offered the buyer."
Listings through to 1985, with South Bend Indiana as place of manufacture,
Literature only goes to 1986.
Corvette engine through to 1972. Auto or 4 speed choices to 1971. Inclding
a borg warner automatic in late 60's. 1976 saw the 400cid Corvette engine,
and subsequently back to a 350.
I think I saw an Avanti on Motor Trend television recently. Also saw an
Avanti on Road & Track with Bud Lindeman (The year was 1973 or so)

I think I saw an Avanti on Motor Trend TV recently. Also saw an Avanti put
through its paces on Road & Track (the year was 1973 or so). Should make it
into the reruns on Speedvision soon.
