MK> I too am now attending A.C.O.A.. I found that my Alcoholism is two fold.
Th
MK> genes that I inherited, and the "learned" process of living as a
lcoholic
MK> from being raised in an alcoholic home.
MK> I quit drinking for 12 years on "Mike's" program and at the end of that
tim
MK> found I was looking up at the bottom I had quit at. This is the biggest
MK> difference today is that I know that I don't know!
MK> I heard you have to change everything about yourself but your name. Well,
d
MK> the ones that said it cause their RIGHT!
MK> Today, I'm doing things I never wanted to do. With people I never wanted
MK> anything to do with and I've never been happier in all my Life.
Don't think I was an alcoholic, but could have been. I did drink to hide who
I was at times. I stopped drinking about 5 yrs ago. But I do take a drink,
once in while without wanting more. So that is why I believe I was never an
alcoholic. However, I do have other addictions that I work on. I quit
smoking 12 yrs ago, was a 1-1/2 - 2 pack a day smoker for about 20 years.
Actually helped me stay out of bars. Couldn't stand the smoke. Also addicted
to those topless and strip bars. Haven't been in one for about a yr. But
hen
I pass one I do get tempted to stop in. Al-anon has been a life saver for
e.
It has changed my life. Not 100% but much better.. Progress not Perfection.
