CB> If data between $000F0000 and $000FFFFF were altered would

it depends what modifications are made and wether the boot is cold
(power) hard (reset) or soft (ctrl-alt-delete), it's probably
possible to modify the soft boot code to not re-load the rom into
RAM (and maybe the soft boot code doesn't by default)
I'm not sure about hard boots.

well, i dont have net access, but all intel IBM pc range CPU's
are backward compatible (except 8088, i think) even the Pentium II's
have registers and internal codes from 80186
what do you mean by "embedded Controllers", if that's what i think it is
even the P II has the Controller functions of 80186
but what i said was that Intel dont "produce" the 80186
cause they are not building anything slower than the Pentium 166's
now, they did at one point build the 80186, but there is no market for
an chip that slow
so now they dont build them
that's all i wanted to say
