We couldn't afford that, but even if we could have, my mother would not
have done that to me.  My hair was naturally wavy.
 
I was four years old before I got my first haircut and had reddish-brown
hair down to my shoulders.  The hair color changed to almost black when I
reached puberty, but since that first haircut, I can't stand the feel of
hair even touching my ears.  I should get my daughter to cut it
