That is a big subject Cherlyn. I have spent my time in recovery with the
question who is God and what does he want with me. Well I have come to the
conclusion that God doesn't like to leave an question un answere. The rouble
is..am I brave enough to follow through with what He asks?
I've been in the progam for seven years and with God grace I have not
had a slip yet. I go through many other problems though and I have no pride
about my time as I know completely that it is a gift for which I have done
nothing.
I have also come to the conclusion that God is who keeps me sober.
All the steps either defate our egos to alow God in, or they directly bring
us into relationship with God. I go to meetings because that is how I tell
God that I invite his Grace into my life. I also go to learn about the
program on an intelectual level but the Big Book does say that there will
come a time in every alcoholic's life when he/she will have no intelectual
defence against the first drink. That tells me that it is more important to
be in good relation with God then it is to have the program memorized. All
the same for the first three years I think I went to a meeting every day some
times two or three.
