Would like information on the standard procedure for EMT's and/or policemen
when it comes to handling people who have just had a seizure. Usually, this
will be a person who has epilepsy, or occasionally a person having a diabetic
attack.
From what I've seen, it appears that regardless of what condition the person
is in (in the middle of a seizure or already out), by the time the police or
EMT's get there the person, by default, is brought to the nearest emergency
room. I have seen and/or heard many EMT's say that their policy was to do
just that. When I asked why, I was told that it was primarily to protect
themselves from litigation regardless of whether the person actually needed
help. As for policemen, they've told me that they have more important things
to worry about and simply try to get rid of the person, be it into the hands
of the EMT's, to the nearest emergency clinic, anywhere/anyone but him. Do
they take training for handling situations like this? From my observation,
about as often as pigs fly.
Comments please.
As a precaution you may like to email me at

At least I know for sure that I'll get your message and you in turn will
receive
a response.
Thank you,
Stephen
