I'm not quite sure what you are saying at that point, since you had
quoted my entire comment, but, sure, optimzations are really only
specific to the specific machine you have.
BUT, most 486 optimizors still tend to do the old style of 486
performance. And the pentium type optimizations are rarely anti-486
optimizations. And they do generally give better code than the older
486 optimizors do. And 'normal' 486s are extremely rare.
