Anatoly Karpov had the distinction of being the "forfiet" world champion
not once but twice! Of course his Tournament record after he got the
title in 75 was excellent...... 
the last news I heard about Karpov was
months back when the organizer of the Spanish Chess Tournament Linaires
poo pooed him in a stern letter for not coming.
