You have to look at it in the context of the times. Money was born in New
Zealand and had a strict puritanical Bretheren upbringing. He gained a PhD
from Harvard in 1951 and spent much of his career at the Johns Hopkins
Hospital. In 1955 he and colleagues published a paper that won the
Hofheimer Prize from the APA. That paper was not only the basis for
intersex treatment worldwide for the next 2 decades, but was also a
cornerstone of the 1970's feminism movement.
