   It's estimated that less than 1% of the gold on Earth has made it up to the 
surface (through volcanic activity). The rest is still down there in the core 
where it slowly sinks to the bottom because of its molecular weight.

   Of the 1% that made it up, more than 70% is left in the oceans -- for 
obvious geographical reasons.
