During WWII, everything was in a blackout, so the Milky Way was quite
visible.  I didn't know at that time the Nazis were sinking shipping in the
Gulf of Mexico because I was just a child and the only thing I knew was
that we were put in danger from somebody, somewhere.  I've only seen
pictures and movies of the Northern Lights and I admit they are
spectacular.  So are the noctilucent clouds, which I've only seen photos
of.
