Zanardi impresses

(7-Oct-98) - Alex Zanardi impressed the Williams team at his first Formula
1 test last week.

The Italian, testing at Barcelona, was only 0.005s slower than Williams
regular test driver, Juan Pablo Montoya who was running with "99
development parts.

Zanardi was said to be surprised that other drivers were not quicker
saying, "There is tons left in the car and loads in me."

Williams senior operations engineer James Robinson said:
"Engineering-wise, his feedback is very good. He was very level-headed
and calm. His technical interest was slightly reminiscent of Ayrton
Senna."

"He had good fun and kept it on the tarmac, and it was encouraging
that he had a good mastery of the controls and functions of the car."
