Zanardi relishes the challenge of Williams

(7-Oct-98) - Alex Zanardi has said that of all the goals he has in Formula
1, returning Williams to the top is the biggest.

"That is the perhaps the greatest part of the challenge, to be at the
centre of developing the car back into a winner," said the Italian.

Williams will have to wait until 2000 before its BMW engine contract starts
and it will have to rely on Mecachrome engines until then, however, Zanardi
isn't worried.

"If you look at the performance of the car this year, you would have
to say the choice is not completely safe. But on the other hand if I had
been offered the choice of the car at the end of 1997 and I didn't go, a
lot of people would have said: 'You're crazy. You could won every race with
that car.'"

"In the last five years, Williams is the most successful team in F1
and it remains one of the best teams, if not the best, technically
speaking. It is determined to do whatever it takes."
