Matrika - The wind whispered your name to me...
Ma> i'M NOT DOING SO GOOD. I found out that I have another serious
Ma> infection again and may very well be diabetic to boot. One more thing
Ma> to accept (SIGN)! At least I know about it. What really hurt is that
Ma> when I called a friend who I used to sponsor about it, she just blew
Ma> me off like I'd called about a hang-nail. She's been a real B****
Ma> lately and I know it's because she's trying to quit smoking (AGAIN);
Ma> however, I also suspect that repeated attempts to quit smoking are an
Ma> excuse to vent her anger all over everyone. I'm also quite concerned
Ma> because the last time she closed herself off to everyone again, like
Ma> this, she had an almost successful suicide attempt. But there is
Ma> nothing I can do - and even if I could, I don't think I would. I
Ma> think I need to take care of me and my own household now.
It is a shame your friend reacted that way, but it could be because of
trying to give up smoking..this is really no excuse..she could have been
a bit more understanding...However, you do know that diabetes can be
controlled..it is not going to be easy, but I am sure you will be able
to handle this..Perhaps if you watch your diet a bit, you will be able
to take the pills..You are right, you need to take care of yourself and
your household first...
Ma> One good thing we went to that hearing on my husband's case against
Ma> his former employer for discrimination - which we believe was refusal
Ma> to grant a reasonable accomodation so a disabled person could work.
Ma> It went quite well - my husband presented his case very well indeed,
Ma> in my opinion. I don't know if he won or not; however, I do know he
Ma> did a superb job. (I'm biased, I know, but I'm also his best critic
Ma> and he did really well.) Also that small claims court case against
Ma> the company that trashed our exhaust system for us, he won.
It would be wonderful if your husband won this case, I am hoping that this
is how things will work out..Glad he won the one in small claims court..
that is great..something for him to be proud of, and you too...
Ma> For me, it's nice to see him standing up for himself because usually
Ma> he lets folks walk all over him - then comes home and vents the stress
Ma> at me. This is something new he is trying. Whether we lost or won
Ma> the case presented today - the bigger one - I think it put the former
Ma> employer on notice that there are LAWS in this country to protect the
Ma> workers that they may not have known could be so well enforced. And,
Ma> whether or not we "win" or they "win", it cost them a bundle to pay
Ma> for legal representation, so that might make it easier for the next
Ma> person they employ. So it's not ALL bad news - it's just more of
Ma> life, on life's terms.
As you say, if he is standing up for himself, this is a step in the right
direction for both of you..and it may help others in the future...
Ma> What a time to find out I'm diabetic - NO ICE CREAM in this heat? OY!
Ma> God/ess (or whatever) grant me the serenity to do WHAT??????
Ma> (GRIN)
If I remember right, you can still have sherbet..and I think they have
some sort of diabetic ice cream out now...don't know how good it is..but
if it is cold, that may help...My grandmother was a diabetic..she fell
and wound up with diabetes..from the shock..she was in her seventies..she
learned to handle it..as I am sure you will..you and your HP..remember,
you are never alone...even if it feels like you are at times..
