Believe me they do slow a lot. LCD's respond very sluggishly at sub-zero
temps unless they have built-in heating. I saw it when they were first
used in gas pumps. Someone didn't realize that what might work fine in
Houston might not work quite as well in Anchorage.

It may be a function of the LSI which will auto power off when it
detects the battery low condition is present. Earlier dmm LSI's may not
have had the smarts to protect the LCD.

I guess Li batteries last a real long time. I've got some 10 year old +
equipment with Li backup cells which are still active. So you don't use
the ohm or transistor gain functions all that much then?
