KT>"hardy" houseplants tend to curl up and die on me> :( However, I'm
KT>determined to grow some lovely tomatoes; along with a few other, yet
KT>unknown, veggies.
Good for you, Katherine.
KT>Two questions - Can anyone recommend a good container for the patio
KT>tomatoes? And second, what other veggies are fairly easy to grow on a
patio
Patio container growing is more difficult than ordinary soil growing.
The containers have to be large enough not to dry out excessively in a
day. The soil mixture has to be both light and rich, yet contain
enough peat moss to hold lots of water. And the cultivars themselves
should be determinate growth and ripen most of their fruit before
frost. It would be best to talk to a knowledgeable professional in the
nursery business to find suitable varieties in your area.
KT>My patio faces the morning to early afternoon sun, and is roughly about
0'
KT>x 5' in area.
You can grow a lot of food there if it doesn't get too hot or dry.
