New safety seat to be unveiled in Japan (26-Oct-98) - A prototype of the new safety seat to be used in Formula 1 next season will be demonstrated at the Japanese Grand Prix on Friday October 30. The seat has been developed by the FIA, Stewart Grand Prix and their sponsors, Lear. It is fully extractable and will allow drivers to be removed from the car whilst still in the seat. Marshalls will be able to remove drivers from crashed cars if they are unconscious or injured.
