SB> I guess that does make it a little different from the east coast
SB> Indians, most of whom have no reservations at all. As a matter of
SB> fact, the Pennsylvania government officially announced that it does not
SB> have even one living Lenapi in the entire state.
I guess I'd have to know more about how the Pennsylvania government decided
that. But... The state of Oregon doesn't "officially" recognize Kalapuya,
Molalla, Atafalti, (and a few others) as anyone that can claim to have
ancestral tribes to those peoples are considered part of the "Confederated
Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon." Same way with the Siletz and
the Warm Springs. They may have descendants of otherwise "extinct" native
peoples that's just not the "official" designation.
SB> Funny, I thought I knew a couple.
I know a lady who is Klickitat. Member of the Grand Ronde Community. (In
Washington, original home of the Klickitat, they are part of the Yakama.)
Doesn't stop her from being Klickitat.
I'm "officially" American. _No_ government "officially" recognizes me as
being Irish.
