C>Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass -- Whipped Cream And Other Delights (196?
C>A&M) There are still songs on this that I enjoy.
SD> That's not PROG, man.
First DD and now this. I'm going to have to put you on probation for 6
months. You can only discuss ELP, KC, Genesis and Yes during this time.
C>No, but it's one of my favorite albums. Really.
Counseling would be a good idea, too. I still listen to "Wichita Lineman"
from time to time, but I don't generally admit it publicly.
C>man, this is the original LP!
SD> Cool cover, too. Love those fucking lizards.
C>Yep. Side 1 of that album is absolutely killer.
Too bad Wood and Jeffy couldn't stick it out. I think Roy woulda kept ELO
from getting so maudlin and Jeffy woulda kept Roy in the proggier regions a
bit longer, before his underlying problem (wanting to be a 50's rocker) took
over.
I figured that the only single I'd see in
C>America from The Move would be "Do Ya."
I dunno. The top 40 hit was ELO, I think. Or did we go through that
discussion once already?
Speaking of The Move, it just dawned on me that the lead singer on _Shazam_
is (duh) not Roy Wood. That's Carl Wayne, innit? I'm not sure why it took
me most of 2 decades to get that one.
C>America/What really gets me about this song is the intriguing playing of
Howe
C>and Bruford. Listen to just them and you'll notice that on this song,
C>maybe more than most Yes songs, they are really working together. Then
C>there's that freakin' blow-your-brain-out bass work at the end by
C>Squire. This song really is a perfect example of Yes at their best.
Except that, according to someone on RMP, Uncle Ricky refused to play on the
song (shades of Bev and Roy).
C>Traffic -- Traffic (1968, Island)
C>Well, I'm not really excited about it. I listened to the first few
C>songs and kind of gave up. I'll get through thr whole thing eventually.
C>It's certainly not in the same vein as _Mr. Fantasy_ or _John
C>Barleycorn_.
Seemed kinda dull to me. A transitional album, perhaps, since the 2 albums
you listed are pretty different.

SD> NP: Caravan "In the Land of Grey and Pink"
C>Ah, I didn't know you had that. That song is one of my favorite of
C>theirs.
I think I own the LP, but that song is on the Rhino thing.
