I know several Scizophrinics who also suffer from Alcoholism.  I sponsored 
one of them for a couple of years.  I remember all the "doctors" in AA who 
told him that he wasn't sober and clean while he was on drugs and that he had 
to stop taking his meds if he wanted to stay in AA.
It was a constant fight with me telling him that those bums didn't know 
anything and that he needed to stay on the meds.
We drifted apart but when I ran into him a couple of years ago, he had 3 
years sober, was married and was working every day.
