Jordan pins hopes on new engine (28-Oct-98) - Jordan is hoping a new Mugen Honda engine will help it secure its best ever world championship finish at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix. The Silverstone based team have finished fifth in the constructors' championship twice in the last three years, but have a chance of finishing this year's championship in third if it can beat fourth place Benetton and third place Williams. Damon Hill tested the new engine at Silverstone last week and chief designer Mike Gascoyne said: "It ran fine, no problems. Damon felt a definite improvement." The new engine will be used by both Hill and Ralf Schumacher during qualifying, whilst a slightly modified engine will be used in the race. Team boss Eddie Jordan said: "We will be disappointed if we don't improve our championship standing. But in some ways we cannot lose. We have turned our fortunes around this season, and ending the year higher than fifth would be the icing on the cake." --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
