The message from Lorne Murphy rises higher:
-=> From what I recall, Clark Ray said this to All <=-
CR> Genesis -- Genesis (1983, Vertigo) -- This is a West German pressing
CR> on the Vertigo label and it sounds much better than the U.S. Atlantic
CR> LP, which I've always been disappointed with. Sure, this album isn't
CR> one of their best, but seeing that cool Roger Dean painting on the
LM> _Genesis_ with a Roger Dean painting???? Seriously? Wow....
On the LP label, yeah. It's on the Vertigo label, which I didn't know
ever released any Genesis. It's the same label that Vertigo used on
their 70s LPs (Gentle Giant for example). I'm not certain that it's an
actual work of Dean, but if it's not, it's obvious that whoever did it
was going for the same look.
CR> Genesis -- A Trick Of The Tail (1976, Famous Charisma) -- This is a
CR> Japanese pressing. I've been looking for this for awhile (I'm trying
CR> to get all the original Genesis Charimsa label LPs). Unfortunately, the
LM> I've been able to find most of the Genesis Charisma vinyls, though
LM> none of them are Japanese pressings that I know of. Have you
LM> located _Presenting Genesis_ yet? That's a weird one.
Nope, I've never seen that one. The one that I keep seeing that I
haven't picked up is one of the re-releases of _From Genesis To
Revelation_. I think it's called _When The Sour Turns To Sweet_, but
I'm not positive. It's a very colorful cover with lots of pink and
pictures of the band. The first version of that album that I picked up
was called _In The Beginning_ and it's on that blue London label that
lots of Moody Blues used to be on. The cover is of a volcano erupting
and the back cover has a small history of the band. This one didn't
have the bonus tracks. I'm under the impression that this version
didn't get released in mass quantity.
CR> the gatefold AND on this Japanese insert. This cover is a marbled
CR> yellow and white whereas the Atco cover of this was solid yellow.
LM> Hmmmm, mine is the marbled colors as well.... but that may just be
LM> because it is 1st. pressing or something.
I think that's it.
CR> Genesis -- "The Lady Lies (live)" (Flexipop 021) -- This is a green
CR> flexidisk from Flexipop magazine. This is rare and I couldn't believe
LM> VERY nice. I'd like to find one of those...
Yeah, I didn't know that they did this. It's the same version of "The
Lady Lies" that's on the _Musica_ bootleg. Heh, the bootleg actually
sounds better :-)
LM> I'm dying to find the
LM> "Many too many" single, with "The Day the Light went out" and
LM> "Vancouver" on the flipside. tDtLWO is one of my favorites, and I
LM> know you like it as well. Could have replaced almost any song on
LM> ATTWT, with the possible exception of "Down and out".
I've got that single. It's a British single on the Famous Charisma
label. It's even in a picture sleeve (picture of the three members). I
like both the B-sides about equally, actually. "Vancouver" is a
beautiful song. It was unfortunate that they left both of them off the
album.
LM> Record Land
LM> has TONS of Genesis ROIO vinyls, but they are too steeply priced
LM> for my liking, even though some of them are very rare.
Yeah, those can get REALLY expensive. I once paid $35 for a 2LP set
from 1982 of a concert in Italy. The only reason I bought it was for
the full live version of "Supper's Ready." The sound sucks!
CR> Yes -- Yesterdays (1974, Atlantic remaster) -- I had to get this for
CR> the long version of "America." Plus, there are quite a few other
CR> tracks on here that I like.
LM> I think that one's '75.
Well, I was just going by the copyright's on the back.
LM> Yeah, "America" rocks in a huge way. Howe
LM> is all over this tune. I found a great 1st.pressing vinyl of this,
LM> which I was pleased with, because I like it a lot too. Excellent
LM> cover, and it's necessary for the completist for "Dear Father". Did
LM> you know Bruford plays the mellotron at the end of "America"
LM> because Wakeman wasn't interested in the track at all? That's
LM> fascinating.
I didn't know that. But, you know, that makes sense now that I think of
it 'cause there are no Wakeman-trademark sounds in that song.
