My memory is a bit foggy, but I think it used to be that way here, many years ago.

BF> Yes, but I only pay for what I use and I always have the option.

Nice plan!

It certainly is.

Here it is different, but they (the phone companies and the local, state
and federal governments) are always trying to find ways to add taxes or
other surcharges to our monthly bill.

BF> We have no flat rate at all. And it works just the same with the cellular

The monthly fee for a cellular phone is less expensive than a regular home
phone. Depending on which plan you have, you may call anwhere in the
continental U.S. at no extra charge, unless the following occur:

1. You have placed enough calls that extended beyond your monthly limit of
550 daytime minutes and 3,000 night and weekend minutes. An additional
charge will be added to the next monthly bill if that occurs (it won't).
This is my current plan, but I have a feeling that the cellular service has
already figured out that this is too good for the customer and will
discontinue it when my contract with them comes up for renewal next April.

2. You have called someone in another country and the charge per minuite
for that I'd be afraid to ask them what it was. The exception to this
arose when I called the customer service department and asked how much
would a call to Canada cost and was told 0.70 cents per minute.

BF> We are not used to a so big country so it's a bit hard to understand
 BF> all this.

The cost of living there must be very expensive.

BF> Sweden could for all be a little state in USA you know.

There are some wrong-thinking people who believe that the U.S. wants to
annex the world. Silly that.

Regards,

Roger
