subject: Wrenches, cranks, etc

GM> JE> Most of us here call then "crescent wrenches". Why, I have
GM> JE> no idea. A similar type wrench but with the jaws at 90
GM> JE> degrees to the handle was called a "monkey wrench" but this
GM> JE> has been about 60-70 years since they were made/used.

GM>I also remember "King Dick" wrenches. This was of course the name
GM>of the manufacturer. I suspect "Crescent" and
"Monkey" may also
GM>have been brand names.

GM> JE> Ford made them a normal accessory (like the jack, lug
GM> JE> wrench, crank) with the Model A, Model T and I think the
GM> JE> very early V8s. All of those cars I had came with them.

GM>The crank wasn't an accessory on the model T. It was a
GM>non-optional fixture ;-)

The 27, 28 T models had electric starters AND an accessory
crank, which was then only needed when one had a dead
battery - which was more often that one wished for!
