Yes, PADI will accept the equivalent rating of any of the "accepted" training
organizations. You won't have any trouble with an SSI card.

Don't buy what you don't like or don't find comfortable. Get the best
quality that you can afford, make sure it fits well. I doubt very seriously
you will find the best mixture of brands in just one shop. Look around, and
remember that the dive shops cost more than mail order because they provide
valuable information and an opportunity to actually handle the gear before
you buy. They also give you a place to gripe if something fouls up (as will
happen). Scuba gear is not a TV or stereo equipment.....personally, I will
always buy from a shop.
