Howdy Folks,
It seems I didn't make it very clear what the problem was when I first
posted this message.
Each machine seems content with the way the network is set up, however,
I cannot connect to the second computer in the network.
I'm setting up my first network, and I've run into a little snag.
I'm running Caldera OpenDos on two machines, a 486DX 33 and a Compaq
III 286 luggable. Each has a compex Freedomline ether net card,
they are connected via a BNC cable. Each system seems content that
all is set up correctly, no memory conflicts, the cards are
recognized. Each system is set up to share its resources, SHARE is
running, and I believe the workgroup is the same on each machine.
(both called SS, don't know if this is in fact the same, having
originated it twice, once on each machine) The machines are named,
directories to be shared have been set on each machine.
NET Diags however will only report the one local machine.
I checked out the physical condition of the two cables I've tried, as
well as the terminating resistors. All appear to be in good working
order, one resistor reads 50.3 Ohm, the other 51.6 Ohm.
The drives were mapped on one machine, but that didn't seem to make a
difference.
I did notice when running the 286 by itself and running netware without
any cable attached that the responses to net admin commands took much
longer, hinting that there was at least some "awareness" of another
point on the network previously.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks for any and all words of wisdom.
Sjoerd
... Only COMMODORE would put RUN & STOP on the same key!
