subject: Rain and flood

TN> Louisiana (LA) is on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It is also the end
TN> of the Mississippi river (the largest river in the USA). Part of the coast
TN> of Louisiana is actually BELOW the sea level in the Gulf of Mexico.

They have made it in Holland so why shouldn't you.

TN> Imagine 200km winds from the sea pushing water towards land that is lower
 TN> than the sea.

You have to build your houses on hills.

TN> Another risk in Louisana is flooding of the Mississippi river. Imagine a
TN> river, 2 km wide, during the rainy season. And it isn't just the rain in
TN> Louisiana. The Mississippi river starts in Minnesota, over 1000 km north
TN> of the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Any rain, or any melting snow, north
TN> of Louisiana becomes part of the flood water in Louisiana

But this can't be unknown for anyone so if you build a house there you are
aware of the risk unless you build it on a hill that's over the water.
Just like living in L.A., San Francisco or San Diego. Everyone knows that
there will be another earthquake but not when.
