I won't quote your message. I understand your concerns. The fact that
you can download a packet should indicate that you have your settings
correct. The fact that you can upload also indicates that there is
nothing wrong with your set up. The fact that after a certain point
the host system will crash indicates that there is something wrong
with the system you are calling. Some BBS systems use external
protocols. Sometimes they are not set correctly. Check that. A lot of
times they are not set correctly. Also could be a situation where the
system is a multi-user (more than one caller). You just need to try more
systems do get a better feel. The short of it is, that if you didn't
have your comm program configured properly for your modem, you wouldn't
be able to transfer as much as you have. As a for instance. I can d/l a
qwk packet from this one system fine. But it will not take the rep
packet with any protocol other than kermit. Why? I don't know. But it is
not the fault of my system.
