Whoa! AMC (Rambler) *never* had a Chevy engine from the factory. The
287 and 327 were AMC-manufactured and had no components in common with
the small block Chevy. I cut enough of those up when I worked in a
junkyard to know. The fact that the bore and stroke were the same as
the Chevy is just coincidence.

I will agree that the engine had some potential. The police had
Rambler V8's in my home town, and they would move. But they
weren't Chevy engines. And all the ones I've seen were tough on
gas. My Jeep Wagoneer with the 327 would get about 12mpg. :(
