Hi JAY (of 1:123/140), On Fri, 02 May 03 at 09:13 o'clock, you wrote me: JE> Many new printers come with a "limited" quantity of ink in the JE> cartridge supplied with the printer - much less quantity than the JE> official replacement cartridge. Lexmark is one like that. You think it's THAT bad? I've been through 2 different Lexmark models since 1997, and I seem to recall that their supplied cartridges have lasted quite a long time. Ofcourse I knew to use either "draft" or "normal" mode as my default settings. I used high-qual for formal letters or final versions of a work in progress. Once I had a leaky Black cartridge, but Lexmark sent me a new one pronto after a little chat on the phone. They didn't want the bad one. But I digress at the risk of getting off topic. What I find rather disgraceful of Lexmark though is their recent lawsuit citing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act against a company that manufactures circuitry to render expended cartridges reusable for us. Anyway.. it's quite intriguing that Lexmark is deliberately attempting to foil 3rd-party developers in develop replacement products. And all it takes a little bit of benign electronic circuitry. I wouldn't like a car manufacturer to tell me that I can only use a specific brand of tire or a specific brand of gas. ...August --- FMail/Win32 1.60* Origin: http://www3.sympatico.ca/abo (1:229/390) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 229/390 1000 106/1 2000 633/267 |
