following up a message from Roland Stiner to Charles Horsey:
CH>Is there any product available which you can use to spray
  >inside to keep a dog away from a certain area?
RS> I've heard of it but don't know the name. You will have to
RS> go to a specialty store like Pet Nosh or something like that
 RS> to find it.
You are loking for a product called "Bitter Apple".
It is available at most pet and pet supply stores.
It is non toxic and will not harm the furniture.
There are several application types.
It can be sprayed on the furniture and floor in the area you want to keep the
dog out of and it will keep him out.
(Unless he is the one in one hundred that like the taste).
This type is "thicker" than the regular version, so it will stay on the
surfaces longer.
There is a thinner applicator that is used to spray on your hands to teach
the dog to stop nibbling.
It is also used to keep the dog from chewing on himself if he has a cut or
rash or something that annoys him.
Give iut a shot.
It worked for me and mydogs.
