I'm surprised that MASM 6.0 dosn't come with a tutorial.
The key to learning x86 asm is to understand how the Intel x86
family uses its registers to execute a program and the way
segmented memory works. You can ignore segmented memory by
setting your program to flat mode but its a good thing to know
anyway. You can save time by getting a good book such as:
Assembly Language Step-By-Step by Jeff Duntemann
ISBN 0-471-57814-2 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
A good book store might order it if its not on the self
This is a good book for beginning because Duntemann explains
how the microprocessor works and how the x86 assembly language
interacts with the microprocessor, in plain English.
Then you can start doing interesting stuff as in :
Advanced Assembly Language by Steve Holzner
ISBN 0-13-663014-6
This stuff is DOS. Assembly programming is not easy. Learn
the simpler DOS stuff, then attack the API stuff for GUIs like
Windows. You'll find that there are things you can do in DOS
that you can't in windows and vise-versa.
