Hungary for change (21-Oct-98) - Hungary could lose its Grand Prix if it cannot prove that it can prevent the crowd invading the track at the end of a race. The FIA fined the race organisers US$1million following the track invasion at this year's race. Seventy-five per cent of the fine has been suspended but will become instantly payable if there is another track invasion in 1999 or 2000. This year, the crowd invaded the race after the first and second-placed cars had crossed the line, some drivers were forced to take action to avoid spectators, Tora Takagi spun as a result. The FIA has demanded that the organiser draw up a "complete plan detailing how it will prevent such events occurring in the future". If Hungary fails to meet the criteria, first reserve Argentina would fill the breach. --- Msged/386 4.20 beta 4* Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:635/728.4{at}fidonet) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 633/267 |
