Tried this trick and it appears to work but wanted to clarify the
"sub-pixel level" comment you made. Here's what I did, in order:

1. Load photo and put it to 100% viewing on screen.
2. Go to Image/Mode/Lab Color
3. Select Window/Channels
4. Select Lightness (Ctrl+1)
5. Go to Filter/Sharpen/Unsharp Mask
6. Set mask to Amount: 350% Radius: 0.3 Threshold: 0
7. Click OK
8. Close Channel Window
9. Go to Image/Mode/RGB

Is this about it? Where does the 'sub-pixel level' come in?
