LR> KS> Along with the excellent advice of Day Brown, the front end will
LR> KS> change it's geometry and possibly give you a problem. I know from
LR> KS> experience that with my 69' Chevelle that was raised 7" before I
LR> KS> bought it that the front end caused me headaches. It changed so
LR> KS> to the point that it failed the basic inspection and was beyond
LR> KS> the adjustment limits and I had to lower the rear that day to
LR> KS> get it to past the test...Best of luck, just remember, you might
LR> KS> need lower gears for the rear-end assembly. If it's only for the
LR> KS> street I would suggest no higher than maybe 3.73:1 if you can
LR> KS> find them, anything in the 4's for the street would be murder on
LR> KS> the engine.

LR>What kind of test? Do you mean an alignment? I was going to put bigger
LR>tires on the front to make up for the difference and maybe put air shocks
LR>on the front to bring it up from the back end pushing it down.
Yes a alignment is what I meant for the test, sorry didn't mention that.
With changing front wheels, remember the big problem, `clearance'...
What might be a problem would be when the rubber of the tire gets
very close to the frame, taller wheels might not help you. Is there
a reason why you want to raise the front off the ground? By doing
so there is another thing you need to think about, the alignment
of the headlights will change once you change the back or the front
or even both. Don't worry, they are at least adjustable. Don't try
skinny front end tires, they may look nice, but remember everytime
you hit the brakes, the front ones are used BIG time. I never saw
air shocks in the front, but if you do use them there, just keep
the pressure on the low side.
LR>Dana 60 rear ends come with 3.73 but I don't plan on trying to retro-fit
LR>a pickup rear end that never was stock in an Impala anyway.
No it may not be a stock setup, but I like that rear, and the gear ratio
is good for the street. What year Impala?
LR>I do plan on still keeping the thing drivable as it is the only thing I
have
LR>to get to work with right now.
When I got out of the service 26 years ago, I built street machines
for several years and had a bunch of fun back then, today is so
different with my living at a place where the garage is the size of
a Honda! keep the faith...
LR>Thanks for the info.
No problem, have any questions, just ask away...
