Hakkinen: 'Only victory will do'

(21-Oct-98) - World Championship leader Mika Hakkinen has decided that
attack is the best form of defence in his title showdown with Michael
Schumacher in Japan.

The 30-year-old Finn only needs a second place to clinch the title even if
Schumacher wins the Suzuka race, but he says that he is giving no thought
to playing the percentages.

"If everything goes normally, I think I will win in Japan."
Hakkinen told German newspaper Bild am Sonntag. "There's no point in
thinking about second place. I will race as if we are level on
points."

Hakkinen said he is not worried about Schumacher applying the sort of
"dirty tricks" he used against Jacques Villeneuve last year.

"He has had enough negative experiences in the past," he said.
"He cannot and will not let such things happen again. I don't expect
any tricks from him and I am not afraid of him either."

Hakkinen's McLaren team mate, David Coulthard said that it will be an
injustice if Hakkinen does not win the title.

"To lead all the way and not win the championship would be bitterly
disappointing for any driver." He said.
