Goodyear firms up pull-out

(21-Oct-98) - Goodyear's has categorically confirmed its decision to quit
F1 at the end of this season.

It's understood that the American manufacturer officially confirmed its
decision to the FIA last week.

Earlier this month it was still in talks with Ferrari, despite announcing
last November its decision to leave F1 at the end of 1998.

Its hand was forced by a new rule passed by the FIA World Council last
week. The rule dictates that tyre companies have to give a full year's
notice of any intention to leave or enter F1.
