Hi Folks:
    If the forthcoming Maccari R7/8/HW50 mainspring is anything like the R1
mainsprings I have, no spring compressor will be necessary.   They fit the
Watts spring guides tightly...one guide of tool steel and another of two
piece synthetic.

I have seen old HW30's and HW 50's with dead springs. These airguns were
a number of years old however. It is no big deal due to how easily the
guns disassemble with the proper $500 spring compressor (aka old metal
lathe!).
