subject: Locking Windows

BL> The sender is able to download a file into a known area on your
BL> hard drive, and access it later. Jeeze! Doesn't that worry you?

JB> No. even if the data section of a cookiie contained malicious
JB> code there's no way to run that code that doesn't rely on a far
JB> worse security breach, and if security is that broken already a
JB> "cookie virus" isn't going to make anything worse.

The cookie holds your address - that's the key. They know where you
live.

>> You have no idea what's in the cookie...

JT>> Nor do you really need to know or care.

BL> You might, if it's a trojan.

JB> there are other tools more suitable than cookies,

I agree. I used it as one example of outside operators with access
to your computer. However, a cookie does give information on your
current address.

BL> AND THAT WORRIES ME...

JB> why?

Because I believe that the USA is basically insane. I believe that
the USA sees foreign computers as a threat to their survival. I
believe that the USA has a burning need to control the Internet, to
centralise it, and monitor it, and if needed - crash every computer
on planet earth, including mine.

Every time some new virus, worm, trojan, whatever finds a hole in
Windows, I don't say, "Oh yes, Gates is a total fuckwit who sells
buggy software," I begin to wander how *many* holes have been built
into Windows, intentionally. I'm suspicious that they always fix them
with a patch, quickly... as if they knew all about it and had the cure
ready, and waiting.

Regards,
Bob
