-=> Jay Emrie said to Oscar Waghorn -=> about "HVDC TRANSMISSION LINES" on 01-26-03 10:50..... JE> Now that would be a real pain in the a--, kill the engine so JE> as to restart it in reverse, then kill it again so as to JE> restart it in forward. How on earth did they find anybody JE> ignorant enough to buy one in the '60s? There were several "ultralights" like that in the 50s. Was it such a problem? I don't think so. Consider that with most vehicles of the day you had to bring them to a complete stop (or almost so) to get the crash gears to mesh in reverse. And synchromesh on the lowest forward gear wasn't all that common in those days, so you had to bring it to a stop before you went forward again. The Model-T had the simplest and most logical system. Push down one pedal to go forward in low, push down another to go in reverse, no braking or any other action required. From Greg Mayman, in beautiful Adelaide, South Australia ...
