One day my helper turned the sandblasting hose on (it was a water, air and sand blasting op) as I was climbbing up the ladder of a tank car to go inside. Damn near killed me and I almost did the same thing to him because I think he was ambitious and without scruples and wanted my job. With me out of the way, he would have taken over my job. Needless to say, he is no longer a friend of mine and I fired his butt. If still alive, he is still holding a grudge against me for that incident. What a guy! RW> Nancy's dad spent his entire life working for the Union Pacific (I think) RW> in Alberqerque as a carpenter. I don't recall when it was that he joined RW> his family in San Diego, but he died at 85 (1980) and had been retired RW> for a long time before I met Nancy. Working for the railroad would have been an excellent way for me to see the country. That wouldn't have lasted long because I would want to sail the oceans. It's in my blood, I think.
