Draft calendar announced Thursday

(12-Oct-98) - Coming Thursday, the FIA World Council will meet and among
other subjects they will complete a draft 1999 Formula One Calendar.

Rumours are circulating that the Malaysian Grand Prix, which was scheduled
to be included in the 1999 season, might be being cancelled because of the
political climate and the circuit is said to be not fully completed. A
possible replacement might be a Chinese Grand Prix at the circuit of Zhuhai
which is also used by the FIM Motorsport World Championship. The major
tobacco sponsors in Formula One like Marlboro and West favor a Grand Prix
in China.

A Grand Prix in the US is not planned for 1999 but is expected to re-appear
on the calendar in the year 2000. The Indianapolis circuit is said to be
favorite among the locations for such a US Grand Prix although organiser
Chris Pook is still hopeful to host a Grand Prix in San Francisco.
